Gymea's leafy mid-century streets hide a lot of pools. They went in behind the brick and weatherboard homes through the 70s and 80s, when a backyard pool was the Shire's default family upgrade, and many are still wearing their original or second surface. Reshaping is possible but it is major structural work. Most owners instead modernise the finish, coping and surrounds, which changes the look dramatically at a fraction of the cost.
The waterline tiles are falling off. Do we need a full renovation?
Not always. Waterline tiles can be replaced on their own if the interior is otherwise sound. If the surface underneath is also at end of life, doing both at once avoids paying for drain-down twice. See pool tiling and coping.
How disruptive is a renovation on a leafy block?
Expect a drained pool, some noise during surface preparation and tradespeople for one to two weeks. Renovators protect gardens and paths on the access route as part of the job.
